What the FLETC Firearms Simulation Study Revealed
Can laser-based firearms training effectively teach the fundamentals of marksmanship? That's the question researchers at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) set out to answer in a formal study published in the Spring 2011 edition of the FLETC Journal. Rather than relying on opinions or assumptions, the study compared students who learned basic handgun skills using laser simulation with those trained through traditional live-fire instruction. The results provide valuable insight into the role simulation can play in developing foundational shooting skills while reinforcing that live fire remains an essential part of a complete firearms training program
